I found this item at a garage sale last week and cannot quite figure out what its for. Its 10 1/2" long and is constructed of wood with a lead mouthpiece and another piece of lead where the sound comes out. On the top it says G, Fl. Maj. On the side of the blowing pipe it says Pat'd and what looks like'87. It looks like it is very well made and produces a loud shrill sound when blown into. It does not sound the same as a G, G#, or Gb played on the piano. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be a note to a pipe organ?
