I got this vase at an auction last week. It was extremely dirty and after I cleaned it up, I thought it looked pretty nice. It is definetly old and has the little square incised mark on the bottom that I cannot find in any of my pottery books. I hoipe that someone recognizes it.
does it look like there is a letter in the mark?
No. I checked with a loupe and cannot discern any letter.
i realize no one is thrilled to hear disappointing commentary but it is definitely not 'old'. the mark is not incised or impressed but a part of the slip casting process. look at the concentric rings on the base they extend into the so called incised mark. slip cast clay is not plastic, if upon retrieval from the mold with slip cast it fractures if you are not careful. i don't know if TK Asian Antiques has totally cleaned their site yet but it's possible you may still find items similar to yours there. don't use google but rather msn or yahoo in search results for TK.
